Open Letter in Support of Clarifying the Meaning of Sex in New Zealand Law

LGB Alliance Aotearoa New Zealand has joined an open letter supporting the Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Amendment Bill and calling for it to go further.

The Bill is right to recognise that sex-based terms in law need clear meaning. But it has a central omission: it defines woman and man without first defining sex itself. Without a stable legal definition of sex, every protection that depends on it remains vulnerable - including protections for women, girls, and same-sex attracted people.

We call on Parliament to strengthen the Bill by putting sex first.
